‘To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield!’  

2012 marks the centenary of Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s ill fated expedition to be the first person to reach the South Pole, and today 17th January 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of Captain Scott reaching the Antarctic.

To commemorate this, the British Armed Services are venturing into the unexplored regions of the Antarctic Peninsula, travelling in the spirit of Captain Scott, but not in his exact tracks.  The aim of the British Services Armed Expedition 2012 is to ‘conduct scientific exploration in remote areas of the Antarctic Peninsula, seeking to further the bounds of human exploration and knowledge’.

Recently, Tullibardine Master Distiller John Black attended the British Services Antarctic Expedition farewell dinner in the Painted Hall, old Royal Naval College, Greenwich and donated a bottle of 1965 Tullibardine whisky to the silent auction, which was held at the dinner.  The auction for this and other items managed to raise over £6500 for ‘Help the Heroes’ charity.

At Tullibardine we are very proud to be a part of this and we have collaborated with Miniature Collectives to produce a limited edition specially labelled whisky:  A 70cl bottle of our 16 year old Single Malt, which is now available from The Tullibardine Visitor Centre shop.

Priced at £45, a donation of £5 from every sale goes to the ‘Help the Heroes’ charity.  At present, this is only available when purchased at our visitor centre but may become available online soon. – Now available online.

“This Tullibardine Single Malt was chosen to celebrate the Tri Services Expedition in the footsteps of Scott and his team to the South Pole.  The whisky has a bright, pale gold colour from the time spent maturing in 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels.  There are wonderful light citrus notes with a hint of barley and pears married with a touch of light toffee and vanilla.”

In a joint press release today, both sets of shareholders were pleased to announce that a successful sale of the business had just been concluded. The sale of the whisky business to the French Group further strengthens their interest in Scotch Whisky following the purchase of the Highland Queen brand from the Glenmorangie company in 2009.
